Puts the Beat in Your Feet

I started clogging or "clog dancing" again this past winter.

I was bored as hell in London (or as one student recently put it: the "arse-hole" of Southern Ontario) and I needed to get out and exercise. Since I am against all things conventional, like... actual exercise, I combed the Internet trying to find a local dance group. The closest one I found was in Stratford, but as I said I was bored as fuck and more than willing to make the 45min-1 hour drive every Monday night.

Once I settled back in Barrie I hooked up with a new dance studio run by Kyle, the now-grown-up red haired kid that used to dance with an old group I belonged to... back in the day. Anyhow, there are very few dancers clogging this summer (normal) so the "advanced class" gets quite the work out with special choreo that Kyle comes up with. Last night the five of us nearly went into cardiac arrest after plowing through "Tango Shoes" by Biff Naked at warp speed.

It's really fun, but I don't know if I can keep up with these kiddies anymore. These ol' knees might not take it (har har!). Anyhow, so that's what I've been doing once a week... I wish I could do it more though since it is an excellent work out. If I had any money I'd sign up for yoga or Curves or something.... but I don't so I won't. Not yet anyhow.

Anybody have any tips for keeping active but not exhausted on the cheap? I'm all ears.

DDR or get someone to drive you out of town with a weighted backpack and water.

Rollerblading and bike rides. You can can go at whatever pace you want, and however long you want. Also, once Lake Simcoe warms up a bit, I suggest swimming since there is no sweat involved but it can be a hell of a work out. If you want to avoid crowds, go earlier in the morning. Sometimes the Oro beach has less people on a summer week day. There is a private beach right next to it on the right.
