Things to wear when meeting your Faculty Advisor - the person who will be the commander of your practicum experience:
dress slacks
blouse
golf shirt
dress shirt
sensible shoes
(underwear as necessary)
What NOT to wear (just like on TLC):
pink velvet jogging suit with "Juicy" printed on the ass
white see-through tank top
ripped jeans or jeans of any kind
dirty sneakers / sandals
band / beer tshirts
baggy hooded sweatshirts
skimpy anything
Apparently having a Hawaiian themed "meet n' greet" party the night before Fac. Advisor day meant that my future colleagues "couldn't be bothered" to dress up or, in some cases, get dressed at all. I guess the only way to be taken seriously as professionals in a post modern world is to subvert expectations by dressing like slobs in order to attract attention to our magnificent teaching skills despite our sloppy wardrobes.
Someone really should have told Alysia and I; boy did I feel like a jerk showing up in dress pant, a blouse and heels. After all, it's true what they say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
