Regan and I went to go see "Children of Men" last night.
Wow. What an excellent movie. I'd say it was even worth the line-up out the door and the $9.25.
It was sad at times, but not in a "violins are playing in the background, I'm tugging at your heartstrings" kind of way, and just as you're watching and feeling apprehensive or glum, there's some comic relief thrown in.
It's been a long time since I've been to a packed movie theatre to see a show where everyone laughed and gasped simultaneously throughout, making it feel like a collective experience despite the darkness and the distracting sticky floors.
The great things about this movie were the subtle details. I think I appreciated it more for it's cinematography than for the script and performances (which were, don't get me wrong, excellent as well). Some of the finer points: the main character/hero doesn't hold or even touch a gun through the entire film (however, as Regan pointed out he's pretty handy with a car door), I thought I was aware of pretty much every entertaining thing a person could do with a ping pong ball, but apparently I was wrong, and Zebra(s): I think there was just the one.
Also, if anyone has seen this film, or is going to see it please let me know what you think of the "Lion-King-esque" ending (don't worry, this question does not give anything away about the actual ending of the film, and it is entirely possible that no one will have a friggin' clue what I'm talking about).
Also, also, as an unrelated side-note I am curious: does anyone make new year's resolutions these days, or has the whole idea of "new years" as a fresh start been systematically tainted and swept away by the gun-jumping media, as Clemens argues?

Children of Men is filed under the "Awesome Movies that Will Never Come to Owen Sound" file of the universe and for that I'm bitter (even more!).
Guess I'm going to fucking Waterloo to see it. Goddam I hate Owen Sound.
I always hated New Year's resolutions. I think if a person is going to resolve to do something they should just do it.
I resolved to drink more water.
