Carly inspired me to remember the good Canada Days of the past since this one sucked largely. Thanks a lot food poisoning / stomach virus!
So last Canada Day Regan and I decided to brave the traffic, head to Toronto, and see some great bands. The Joel Plaskett Emergency was opening for The Tragically Hip at the Molson Amphitheatre, it was destiny.
Looking back it's hard to believe we'd only been seeing each other for three months. It seemed like so much longer (in a good way). We arrived early in Toronto, had some drinks at a cute patio cafe and then departed for Ontario Place. We picked our spot on the lawn amongst the drunk men sporting flags as capes, people wearing "In Gord we Trust" t-shirts, and 12-year-olds drinking beer and snuggled up waiting for Joel.
As I recall Regan also yelled embarrassing praise at several people he saw wearing Thrust Hermit t-shirts.
After The Emergency's all too short performance Regan and I, sleepy from sun and tasty beer, took a nap on the blanket on the lawn. Best nap ever. Sadly we were poked by a passer-by who felt the need to tell us that The Hip would be on soon. Thanks so much budddy!
The show was great and just as it ended we were able to catch the fireworks being set off over the fence at Ontario Place. Aside from the several hours we spent in traffic (sadly not making out) after that, it was one fantastic day/night.
So yes, best Canada Day ever. No stomach cramps, no vomiting, no fever and cold shakes. I will remember it fondly.
