What is This World Coming To?

Well, it's March and it has become clear to me over the last few days that we're going to hell in a handbasket. An iron handbasket.

In the last 72 hours I've watched An Inconvenient Truth, Idiocracy, and parts of The End of Suburbia. I've also read several chapters from Branded Nation dealing with the decline of academic standards (especiallly at top-tier Ivy League schools) in the States. I just finished reading Chris Clemens' recent blog post and it seems (although I'm not surprised) that what I've been reading about is all too close to home, with no end in sight.

Some of my co-workers make comments like "pass 'em through," "let them be someone else's problem," and "oh well, they'll learn it next year," in moments of frustration. Understandable... to a point. However, what worries me the most is that if we repeat these mantras and start to truly feel this way, deep down in our teaching core, then there will be no one to operate on me in the future when I'm ill. No one to cut my hair, no one to fix my sink, no one to sell me a reliable product, hell, no one to hand me a cheeseburger through a window.

The movie Idiocracy is pure genius, but really scary. I see this every day and this is where future generations are headed. Please, go rent this movie and then, if you have an IQ above Britney's, go forth and multiply.

Otherwise, the water's just going to keep rising and we'll all be eaten by Polar Bears.

Is it a 'share everything' thing?

Shouldn't you two be busy breeding?

I just invigilated a second year exam. 100 multiple choice questions. They got three hours. THREE FUCKING HOURS. And blessfully, the last person left just after two hours in.

They let WAY too many people in University's now.

I am more concerned about "They let WAY too many people in University's now." Does anyone else want to whip out their black marker of copy editing power?
